Female security guard raped on duty in Mutare

A FEMALE security guard who was guarding an Econet network booster was last week raped while on duty by an unknown rapist who vanished into the bushy area close to Marymount Teachers’ College. Manicaland provincial police spokesperson Inspector Enock Chishiri confirmed the incident that
happened on Sunday at Marymount Econet booster at around 9am.

He is appealing to anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of the rapist to report to their nearest police station.

He said the guard from Sakubva high-density suburb was approached by an unknown man who produced a knife and demanded to sleep with her.

“The guard refused and tried to run away, but the man gave chase and grabbed her. He ripped off the guard’s pair of trousers with a knife and raped her once.

“The rapist disappeared into the bushes close to Marymount,” said Insp Chishiri.

“The guard sent a ‘please call me back message’ to her employers, but she got no response.

“She had to wait until she finished her duty and then reported the matter at Sakubva Police Station,” he said.

Meanwhile, police have launched a manhunt for a 31-year-old man who allegedly raped and robbed a 53-year-old woman last week in Marange.

It is alleged that Trymore Rubende (31) of Muchingami Village, Chief Marange, approached the victim from Odzi on her way from the bus stop.

“The two walked together for about 200 metres. When they got to a bushy area, Rubende grabbed the woman, pushed her down and raped her.

“He also grabbed the woman’s Nokia Asher cellphone and $71, all amounting to $196, and ran away.

“The woman reported the rape to the police and a manhunt has since been launched for Rubende,” said Insp Chishiri.
