Zimbabwe Popular Radio Presenter & Power FM Station Manager Bridget Gavanga (Bubz) quits Power FM

Bridget Gavanga
Popular radio presenter and Power FM station manager Bridget Gavanga (pictured) has quit due to “pressing commitments”. Affectionately known by her listeners as Bubz, the vivacious and delectable Bridget said she has taken a sabbatical to sort out one or two pressing issues, but will return to radio. “I’m not quitting radio as it sounds but I’ll be back. Power FM is like my home . . . kumusha chaiko. The point is I have to attend to one or two things once I’m done you will hear me on radio.
“All I can say is one of my relatives is unwell and he needs medical attention overseas. So I will be going with him so that we don’t lose him like we did with my mom,” she said.
Sivukile Simango, the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Holdings head of public relations, confirmed Bridget’s resignation and wished her well.
“Yes, she resigned and we wish her well. We understand she will be going overseas,” he said.
Asked who had taken up her position, Simango said group chief executive Happison Muchechetere was still to appoint a new station manager.
This is not the first time Bubz has resigned from the station. She had been on and off radio having initially resigned from Gweru-based station in 2004 saying “our lives were greatly affected when we moved to Gweru”.
She later rejoined the station three years later only to quit in 2007 when she got a job as an artiste and repertoire manager at the Zimbabwe Music Corporation.
Bubz joined the then Radio 3 now Power FM in 1997. She hosted the popular morning shows where she endeared herself with listeners.
She later rose through the ranks to become the station manager following in the footsteps of other veteran female presenters like Musi Khumalo.
