Kadoma man survives after being attacked by a Leopard while bathing in a river

KADOMA — A 28-year-old man is lucky to be alive after over-powering a vicious leopard that attacked him while bathing in a river.

According to Mashonaland West police spokesperson Inspector Clemence Mabgweazara, the victim, Jemiyani Ndlovu of Chimwendo compound, Battlefields in Kadoma, was bathing in Munyati River at around 2pm when the incident happened last week.
Police said when Ndlovu had finished bathing and was about to get dressed, a leopard pounced on him and sunk its claws into his back.
“Realising that his life was in danger, Ndlovu firmly grabbed the leopard’s legs as it was still clinging onto his back and ran towards the compound which is a few metres from the scene,” said Mabgweazara, adding he shouted for help thereby alerting a fellow villager Takemore Mupotima (25) who struck and killed the beast using an iron bar.
A report was made at Battlefields Police Station while Ndlovu was referred to Kadoma General Hospital for treatment.
The dead leopard, which was about 1,5 metres long and estimated to be two-years-old, was surrendered to Parks and Wildlife authorities.
