Hwindi from Birchenough Bridge was found dead with his brain splashed on the road

A Birchenough Bridge rank marshal, Trymore Takawira (26), was found dead with a broken skull and brains scattered on the road last Friday morning in a horrific accident that left villagers shell shocked.

Police confirmed Takawira's death and said his body was discovered by Mr Justin Nyakunu who was driving from Mutare to Masvingo in the early hours of last Friday. Chipinge District police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Blessing Kadzuraumera, said Mr Nyakunu found Takawira's body lying on the tarmac on the middle of the left lane.

He returned to Birchenough Bridge where he informed the police who went to the scene to investigate.

"A rank marshal, Shakemore Mapopoto of Tama Village in Chamutsa area accompanied the police to the scene where he positively identified the deceased. We suspect that he might have fallen from a moving vehicle or bus as his skull was broken and fragmented with his brain splashed on the tarmac a few metres from his body. His right hand and thigh were also broken," he said.

Insp Kadzuraumera said Takawira's body was conferred to Chipinge District Hospital for a post mortem and his next of kin were informed.

"Investigations are in progress and we urge anyone with information that may help the police to uncover what happened to come forward," said Asst Insp Kadzuraumera.
